Getting Through Surgery Together

Here at Kidney Care and Transplant Services, we offer comprehensive care throughout the kidney transplantation process. We work closely with you during the different procedures and provide access to our entire team of professionals: your physician, a clinical pharmacist, a nurse care manager, a nutritionist, a physician assistant, a dialysis educator, a financial coordinator, and surgeon. Together, we help manage all aspects of your health.
We have five excellent transplant surgeons in the Transplant Program at the Baystate Medical Center that perform all our transplant procedures. In the event of a surgery, our team guides you through the preparations for a successful procedure. We help you with finding a match and maintaining your health throughout, while also offering assistance with insurance and financial matters.
As our patients know too well, our work is not over after surgery. The body takes time to heal and we need to monitor your body very carefully. The recovery period will require regular checkups and medication adjustments. We don’t want you to be overwhelmed during this time, especially with the financial paperwork that comes with a hospital stay. Our post-transplant Care Coordinator, Diana Smedberg, has worked with transplant patients for 20+ years and is dedicated to making your recovery as smooth as possible. You’ll be well cared for before, during, and after your transplant surgery.
