Aleksandr Kurbanov, MD

Dr. Aleksandr Kurbanov moved to the Springfield area after graduating from The First St. Petersburg Medical University in Russia, he completed his surgical residency at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA and his surgical transplantation training at Baystate and Hartford Hospital. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery of Tufts University Medical School, Fellow of American College of Surgeons and a member of Society of Transplant Surgeons. His professional interests include vascular access for dialysis, minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins, laparoscopic kidney and kidney donor surgery, kidney transplant, laparoscopic adrenal gland surgery, minimally invasive treatment of polycystic kidney disease and access for anterior lumbar spine fusion surgery. Dr. Kurbanov and his wife have three children and one grandchild. He enjoys travel with his family, music, playing the piano, reading, and learning languages.

George Lipkowitz, MD

George Lipkowitz, MD

Dr. Lipkowitz completed his undergraduate studies at SUNY Stony Brook and medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical School where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Remaining at SUNY Downstate- Kings County Hospital, for his general surgery residency, followed by a transplantation fellowship. In 1988, Dr. Lipkowitz was recruited to Baystate Medical Center to organize and direct the only kidney transplant program in Western Massachusetts. Since its inception and under his direction, the program has performed over 1,000 organ transplants. Dr. Lipkowitz is an Associate Professor of Surgery of Tufts University School of Medicine and Medical Director of Life Choice Donor Services, the organ bank that services Baystate Medical Center, Director of Transplantation at Baystate Medical Center and Assistant Medical Director of New England Donor Services. Dr. Lipkowitz lives with his wife in Amherst, Massachusetts and spends as much time as possible with his two sons and two grandchildren. He is an avid tennis enthusiast, and enjoys hiking, biking, and travel.

John Lohlun, MD

John Lohlun, MD

Dr. Lohlun graduated from the University of Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa, after which he completed an internship in internal medicine and general surgery at Baragwaneth Hospital in Johannesburg. He undertook general surgery residency training at New York Methodist Hospital / Weill Cornell Medicine where, as a chief resident, he was awarded the most outstanding surgical resident in the Department of Surgery. A fellowship in surgical critical care at Westchester Medical Center / New York Medical College and a fellowship in solid organ transplantation at the University of Minnesota followed. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Tufts University Medical School. His clinical interests include vascular access surgery, and living and deceased donor organ transplantation. In his free time, Dr. Lohlun enjoys hiking, fishing, gardening, and playing tennis.

Robert Madden, MD

Robert Madden, MD

Dr. Madden graduated from Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed General Surgery training at Methodist Hospital of Indiana followed by a fellowship in organ transplantation at the University of Cincinnati. After completion of his fellowship, Dr. Madden moved to the Pioneer Valley and joined the surgical staff of Baystate Medical Center. He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine and Medical Director of The Vascular Access Center. His clinical interests include kidney transplantation and dialysis access for patients with kidney failure. He and he and his wife have always enjoyed their canine companions, especially Airedale, Scottish and Irish terriers. Dr. Madden enjoys world travel and many outdoor pursuits including all forms of snow skiing, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, camping, and hiking.

Kenneth McPartland, MD

Kenneth McPartland, MD

Dr. McPartland completed his undergraduate studies at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and medical school degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now Drexel University College of Medicine) in Philadelphia. After a move to Vermont for a residency in General Surgery at the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, he moved to Burlington, MA for a Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery Fellowship at Lahey Clinic. Since moving to Springfield, Dr. McPartland has become Assistant Director of Kidney Transplantation at Baystate Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Surgery for Tufts University School of Medicine, a Clinical Instructor in Surgery for the University Of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine and a member of the Core Teaching Faculty for the General Surgery residency Program at Baystate Medical Center. He is board certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His clinical interests include Kidney Transplantation, General Surgery, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Organ Donation, and Dialysis Access Surgery. At home, Dr. McPartland enjoys managing his small family farm, traveling, and spending time with his surgeon wife and three daughters.
