Understanding Your Medications

As good as they might be for you, few people enjoy taking medications, especially long-term. Whether it’s the strange taste, unpleasant side effects, or extra costs, medications are often accompanied with a bad association. We get that you’d rather skip the whole procedure, but it’s important that you follow your specific treatment plan as prescribed.

Are you confused by the different medications and when to take what and why? Part of our job is making sure you understand the timing and effects of your medications. We want to help you stick to the plan outlined by your doctor, with suggestions for how you can integrate the medications into your daily routine and tricks for making the process easier. Keep forgetting to take that pill with dinner? Try an alarm on your phone or ask your partner to remind you when they sit down to eat. It’s important to get into a habit that works for you and your living situation. That’s where our years of experience comes in. By putting our heads together, we’re sure to find the best solution!

For in-depth questions and medication management, you’ll need to talk to our Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Dr. Marissa Ostroff from Western New England University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She specializes in chronic kidney disease, long-term care, and drug interactions, making her a valuable asset to our team. Together with the rest of our Kidney Care Team, she can help you to fully understand the medications you’ve been prescribed, review your treatment plan to make sure it’s effective, and understand any possible interactions and side effects. This is especially important if you’re suffering from a chronic condition or take medications for different symptoms.

You can ask us any question, no matter how small or silly it might seem to you. We’re here to help!
